The title says it all: an album combining legendary The Pharcyde rhymes with A Tribe Called Quest samples. But there is something more to this mixtape than being just another run-of-the-mill mashup effort.
Gummy Soul’s mixmaster Amerigo Gazaway has managed to create something really special by digging through the crates to find the original jazz and funk records sampled by ATCQ, and giving them a completely new spin with the help of vocals by the legendary West Coast group.
The end result is something more than the sum of its parts: a 55 minute aural journey into 90s hip-hop that manages to sound as fresh as ever.
